A refurbished school bus with 17 ATARIs on board circulated among the 21 public schools in the district, giving each fourth-, fifth- and sixth-grader several opportunities to work with Atari's PILOT language. An old school bus (circa 1953), provided by the district, was painted red, white and blue and named the Napa Valley Unified School District Computer Lab. The lab accommodated 32 students at a time with each child sharing a 400. Each learning station also included an 11-inch Quasar television for video display and a cassette recorder for storage. This mother of four was able to earn enough to build several rental rooms next to her home in her village of Bari Majlish, an hour outside Dhaka. She and her tenants share a companionable outdoor cooking space and all largely cook traditional Bangladeshi foods such as dahl, ruti (also spelled roti), and vegetable curries. She and her family don't drink the milk that helps provide their income.

Brontotherium was a genus of mammals that lived in the Lower Oligocene period about 35 million years ago in what is now North America. This photo was taken during the Fossil Fair at Tucson, Arizona, where amateur and commercial fossil collectors gather to trade in the remains of prehistoric animals. Fictional Representation and Caption: Statistics and cultural studies always harked that families who dine "ensemble" have much better relations than those who do not. The time-honored tradition of families eating together fell by the wayside by the end of the 20th century. In the time-starved 21st century, families re-instituted the practice, but with a twist. They ritualistically eat together but are nearly all multi-tasking at the same time. But they can and often do interact with new half-mirrored goggles "I-GOGS" that allow virtually any computer/TV/school/ or video game program to be played at any time. Mealtime became an opportunity to share data as well as food.   • (1992) Professor Alec Jeffreys (b. 1950), English molecular biologist and discoverer of DNA fingerprinting. In the background is an image of an autoradiogram, the visualization technique used to compare DNA samples. A DNA fingerprint is a unique genetic sequence, which identifies any individual, human or animal, from a tiny sample of tissue such as blood, hair, or sperm. Its many uses include the identification and conviction of criminals, and the proving of family relationships, such as the paternity of a child. Only monozygotic 'identical' twins share the same DNA. DNA consists of two sugar- phosphate backbones, arranged in a double helix, linked by nucleotide bases. There are 4 types of base; adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G) and thymine (T). Sequences of these bases make up genes, which encode an organism's genetic information. The bands (black) on the autoradiogram show the sequence of bases in a sample of DNA. A DNA fingerprint is a unique genetic sequence, which identifies any individual, human or animal, from a tiny sample of tissue such as blood, hair, or sperm.   • (1992) Blood storage. Blood samples being stored in a cryogenic freezer. The blood can be used to produce a DNA fingerprint even after years of storage. Selected DNA extracted from the blood is separated into DNA bands by electrophoresis in an agarose gel. The pattern of DNA bands is unique to each person, but related people, such as a parent & child, share some bands. DNA fingerprints can be used to prove conclusively whether people are related.   • The children of one of Shahnaz Hossain Begum's neighbors at their home in Bari Majlish village outside Dhaka, Bangladesh.   (Shahnaz Hossain Begum is featured in the book What I Eat: Around the World in 80 Diets.)   Shahnaz got her first micro loan several years ago, from BRAC, Bangladesh Rehabilitation Assistance Committee, to buy cows to produce milk for sale. She repaid her initial loan and has since gotten new ones over the years along with thousands of her fellow Bangladeshis. This mother of four was able to earn enough to build several rental rooms next to her home. She and her tenants share a companionable outdoor cooking space and all largely cook traditional Bangladeshi foods such as dahl, ruti (also spelled roti), and vegetable curries. She and her family don't drink the milk that helps provide their income.

The caloric value of her typical day's worth of food in June was 2600 kcals. She is 20 years of age; 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 106 pounds.  Although she doesn't care for noodles or rice, a special rice roll is her favorite snack: black glutinous rice wrapped around youtiao (fried bread), pickled vegetables, mustard greens, and flosslike threads of dried pork. Zhen and her friends eat at KFC about three times a week, something they couldn't afford without the company's coupons. Meanwhile, her father and grandparents, who live in a tiny apartment in northeast Shanghai, go without meat during the week so they can afford to share a special meal with Zhen on her weekend visits.   • A family memorializes a family member killed during the Iran-Iraq War (1980-1988) in the Martyr's section of the Behesht Zahra cemetery in Tehran, Iran. Other parts of the cemetery are devoted to the rest of the population. Memorializing family members who have died is an important part of Islamic and Persian culture in Iran and follows a prescribed series of graveside visits. Iranians meet at the graves, bringing food to share with each other and passersby who pay their respects.
