  • Working around the clock without significant human input, industrial welding robots like these Swedish-made IRB 6400's build Sierra pickup truck bodies in the General Motors Truck and Coach Plant in East Pontiac, Michigan. In the plant's body shop, 300-odd robots work to produce 73 truck bodies an hour. Working with uncanny speed and surprising quiet, robots are increasingly moving human workers from exhausting, dangerous, and repetitive tasks to more intellectually rewarding jobs.
