Vendan women prepare the termites they have collected with their termite collecting sticks from a large termite mound near their village of Masetoni, Mpumalanga, South Africa. They are cleaning the termites by rinsing them in water, and then they fry them in oil and eat them with cornmeal porridge called mielie mielie. Fried termites are nutty and crunchy.
